1. Who we are
Lehman is a research-reading application that presents academic papers in a more accessible format. In this policy, "Lehman," "we," "our," and "us" refer to Lehman Labs LLC, the operator of the Lehman app and related website.

2. Information we collect
The app supports account creation, sign-in, onboarding, saved papers, personalized feeds, discovery, search, and profile management. To provide those features, we may process the following categories of information:
- Account information: email address, securely handled password credentials, and profile information such as your display name.
- Preference information: onboarding completion state and selected research categories used to personalize your feed.
- Activity information: papers you view, save, share, read in full, or skip, along with category-level engagement signals used by the app's recommendation logic.
- Saved and reading state: saved papers, read papers, and related timestamps so your library and progress persist across sessions.
- Search and discovery usage: search queries and category interactions may be processed to return results and understand usage patterns.
- Diagnostics and analytics: the app may process anonymized analytics events and crash or error telemetry to monitor performance and fix issues.
- Technical data: session tokens and device or app context required for authentication and core app functionality.
3. How we use information
We use information to operate and improve Lehman, including to:
- create and authenticate accounts;
- store your saved papers, reading history, and profile settings;
- personalize your home feed and category recommendations;
- support search, discovery, and paper-detail features;
- measure product engagement and understand which features are useful;
- detect bugs, investigate failures, and improve reliability and performance; and
- communicate with you about account or service issues when necessary.
Lehman summarizes research papers for readability. Those summaries should not be treated as medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
4. Third-party services
We use a limited number of third-party service providers to help operate Lehman. These providers assist with functions such as:
- Authentication and data storage: securely managing account sign-in and storing your papers, preferences, and reading history.
- Product analytics: understanding how people use the app so we can improve the experience.
- Error monitoring: detecting crashes and bugs so we can fix them quickly.
These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by their own privacy practices. We do not share your personal data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Security and storage
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:
- All data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
- Authentication sessions are persisted securely to keep you signed in.
- Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plaintext.
- Database access is scoped through application logic and row-level access controls.
No system can guarantee absolute security, but we use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information we process.
6. Retention
We retain information for as long as it is reasonably necessary to operate the service, maintain account functionality, preserve your saved papers and reading state, analyze product usage, meet legal obligations, or resolve disputes.
If you request deletion of your account, we will work to remove or anonymize information associated with that account within 30 days, subject to any legal or operational requirements that require limited retention.
7. Your choices and rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export certain personal information. The app also includes controls that allow you to:
- update your display name;
- change your password;
- request an email change; and
- sign out and revoke your active session.

8. Children's privacy
Lehman is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the service, please contact us so we can investigate and respond appropriately.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via email before the changes take effect.
